Okay. Zoe just grew a fairly sizable extra toe on one of her front legs. I found it about a minute ago, and I'm freaking the hey out.

What does it look and feel like? Does it seem to be painful?

It's on the back/side of one of her front legs, toward the top but not in an area that's likely to callous. It doesn't appear to be painful, but she looks worried when I investigate it for too long (so maybe??? no idea). It's round, hard and can be moved around.

This is an intersting thread. Rosie got a weird lumpy callus type thing between his foot and the upper pad, the one that sticks out on the back of the foot/leg. I also messed with it off and on, tried to keep it moist with coconut oil. I couldn't help myself, I'm a monkey picker :embar:

I thought about putting cansema/black salve on it. I used that on a small black skin tumor on one of my cats once. The vet said he would need surgery to remove it, but that I had a week or two if I wanted to try the cansema. Well it worked and the f*cker fell right off. I've also used it on a very creepy mole that popped up under my boob, a little gift from my tanning bed days. It hurt like a mofo, but my body shoved that mole right out, and left a little hole. Some other spots appeared around it and fell out, I don't want to think about it, makes me want to slather my body in it....

Annnnnyways, it went away on it's own, or maybe my picking helped(sarcasm) So what is up with the foot issues on dogs???! Maybe some coconut oil will help keep it clean. You could also soak a towel in salt water (1/4tsp non iodized sea salt to 1 cup hot water)and press it on there. Seems like it would do some good, and easier than trying to soak it in a bowl.

The google results are scary!! Editing to add; scary but very accurate. The descriptions on how it feels and how your skin looks during the process.

Zoe's fine! The vet says it's just a little cyst that will probably go away on its own. He didn't use the term "sebaceous cyst" but I'm pretty sure that's what he was describing. In other words, Zoe's a healthy cattle mutt who had an ingrown hair or something.  :yay:

I worry so.
