I want to talk about my dog

Generally dog talk goes here.

Bonnie hurt her leg. She either limps or holds its in the air. I have no idea how she hurt it. Poor girl.

Oh, those mystery-injuries are the worst! Hope it heals up quickly.

Poor Bonnie... can you tell which leg?

Dugie is a bit worse than usual the past couple of days, I think because of the ice. I wonder if Bonnie's is something similar? Strain trying to keep balance on a slick surface?

[quote="Dugan";p=273] Strain trying to keep balance on a slick surface?

That's a really good call. All of the dogs I walked yesterday had trouble on the ice, around here it's still slick enough to cause a problem.

I walked my goofballs yesterday and wish I would have had a camera with me to take a picture of Molly on the snow. She climbed up onto a tall snowbank to pee (of course! Gotta put on a show!) and I was watching how she balances. Her toes all spread out and she kind of curled them into the snow to hang on. It was really cool. I also love watching her feet when she swims, they turn into duck feet! All webby 8-)

Also, they smell like Fritos.

I know! Call me weird, but I love the popcorn salty smell of sweaty dog paws!

Caboodle was especially funny on the driveway ice. He hit it at a run, spun around with all four feet on the ground. After that, he'd run, but in teeny-tiny steps! Then, he started running back and forth across the driveway using the snow banks on either side to stop and turn, kind of like a skateboarder! It was teh cyoot!

Dugie, though, looks tense and braced, clenched toes, tentative steps. Today I'll try some of his post-surgical PT stretches when we get back from walking. Maybe he won't look as bad later as he did last night.

I don't think it was ice. It's pretty much all gone here and what there is is easily avoided. It's her right rear paw. I went over her leg feeling but discovered nothing. She definitely did it in the house.

Is it clearing up? Sometimes there can be mild strain that resolves on its own, just like we humans get.

Yes, it's a lot better. I limited her walks today, which she was okay with, and tonight she is still limping a little but no longer holding it up off the ground. She's spent a good part of the day sleeping.

I was taking a wait and see approach. I am a pretty good judge now of when I can wait and see, when I can treat at home and when I have to take someone to the vet.

From the sound of it, this'd be a wait-and-see for me too. Which leg is it? Is there a time when it's worst?

Right rear leg. She's limping a bit more this morning.
