I have only colored my hair once since going vegan, and did not seek out vegan, cruelty-free hair color that time. :( BUT I just picked up some Naturtint, which I have not used yet. I am going to do some of my dreads black and some red. :)

I'd love a good long-lasting purple that is vegan. Any suggestions? I'm looking for a deep purple, not lavender or anything pinky.

Well, I used Special Effects Deep Purple on my son awhile back, that brand is vegan. It makes a big purple mess on everything it touches! Skin, clothes, pillowcase/sheets, etc. And continues to do so for a long time. Read the comments here:

They have several purples: Deep Purple, Pimpin Purple, and Purple Smoke, as well as some blue-ish purples.)

I had my hair pimpin purple. It was a nice deep purple but it faded to magenta. I would suggest a Manic Panic amplified purple instead because the amplified lasts a lot longer. Manic Panic is also vegan. http://www.manicpanic.com/amplifiedhaircolor.html

I've used the Special Effects Deep Purple before. I liked the color but it faded too fast and it faded to pink :(

And yes, I used to carry around an old towel to throw over any chair (or any other surface I might rest my head against) for two weeks after coloring.

There are ways to extend the color even if you don't use the amplified. Wash your hair as little as possible and when you do with cold water only and as little shampoo and possible. Use a gentle shampoo either for very dry hair or color treated hair. I skip conditioner too. I keep meaning to look for a vegan leave in conditioner.

Has anyone seen this month's Vogue cover with Lady Gaga? Her hair is is pale pink. I had it a similar color before and want it again.
