+A zillion!

VK, I hear you about forecast skepticism. This time, though, the forecasts just keep confirming that it'll be big enough and close enough that we inlanders will be affected. We've brought in all our outside stuff. We plan to drop some trees. Every fall, we go around and try to drop things that could affect the house or wires, so we've just moved up the schedule some. There's a cherry I hate to lose, but if it fell the right way, it'd come down on the bay window, and I remember how the nearby cherry came up by the roots during the ice storm. There's others I'd like gone, but theyre either too big or positioned such that I am not confident about dropping them safely. And I don't cut anything I'm not sure of - chainsaws are too dangerous.

Yeah, and they are evacuating parts of the city. I'm right on the border of the evac zone in the flooding zone. I told DJ we'd be okay and not to come get us, but I'm regretting that.

Thinking safe thoughts for you all.

And there's this:

The quote from the ACLU report about the New Orleans prisoners during Katrina is shocking.

I've been on Rikers and my cell flooded from a not that heavy rainstorm. I would be terrified there. Well, more than usual.

Eta- the potential for a disaster there is high. I can see something similar to Katrina happening there. I heard horror stories about Rikers during the 2003 blackout.

Riker's Island has a maternity jail too, with pregnant and recent mothers. I wonder if at least those women are being moved to Elmhurst Hospital, which has a prison ward and is nearby. Though it may also be in the evacuation zone.
