eReaders and eBooks

Postby vegematic » Wed Mar 09, 2011 12:56 am

I have a Sony Pocket Edition PRS-350SC that I just got a month or so ago. I also have Calibre software for converting and organizing my ebooks.

Does anyone know if it will convert a Kindle format to an ePub? There is a book I want and Kindle has by far the lowest price on it. I have the Kindle app for my iPod but I'd really rather view it on my Sony.

It's possible. It isn't strictly legal if the book you want has DRM. But you probably are safe doing it anyway.

Have you looked at all the ebook sellers, not just the associated b&n/amazon/sony storefronts?

I googled the title plus ebook. Amazon is about $10 and the rest range from $16 to $22 or so. I'll check out that link you posted. Thanks!

It's possible but it's illegal and not simple-I was looking into it but it is really difficult.

That link doesn't actually show you how-google kindle to epub or strip kindle drm for lots of info on how to do it. It was too involved for me so I am still using my kindle app.

Also I think the hacks in that thread are old now.

You can only convert kindle books that don't have drm protection through calibre unless you first strip the DRM. That's the illegal part and amazon keeps updating their software so you have to find the latest hacks. Two Smart Guys website has a forum that details how to strip DRM but the information is from January so I don't know if it still works. There are also youtube videos on it. You need to look for one with the most recent date. I downloaded the two programs necessary to do this but haven't tried it yet. You first need the Kindle for PC.

Bekahw, were they DRM free?

we flirted with a literati e reader. we caressed it in the store, scanned the bar code and found the price enticing, took it with us on some other errands, and then returned it. The reviews made me think I would regret it. Sadface, cuz I wannnnnnna ereader.
everyone's right and no one is sorry, that's the start and the end of the story
