vegankitty/ :cat: ~ I t0tally feel you re: unfinished projects & self-esteem. If you're feeling crafty, I say go ahead and start something that doesn't need to be finished. Throw a scrap of fabric in a hoop and learn some stitches - that way, when you start a Real Embroidery Project, you'll already have some skillz. That's what I did to learn the basics, and I always try out new stitches or different threads on scraps before doing them in a project. I have a bunch of shirt sleeves from converting some men's button-down shirts into sleeveless shirts for me. I use the sleeves to practice embroidery.

Another idea is to start a sampler. Samplers are basically ways to learn and show off stitches. Sublime Stitching has a cute one that says "Stitches I Know."

I have some stitch instructions and stuff in digital format that I can share with you if you like. Or you can just google embroidery instructions/tutorials.

i second that suggestion, shiva! i started teaching myself to knit. i've only learned one stitch so far and it was frustrating at first but it felt good to accomplish something.
you're inspiring me to start getting crafty again shiva :)

p.s. You don't have to use embroidery floss if you don't have any or if you do have some but you want to save it for a Real Project. You can use ordinary sewing thread, you just have to use multiple strands to get a similar effect - embroidery floss is usually six strands.

bluedawg, I put the peacocks on hold for now. I want to hone my skills some more before going back to that one. I want it to be as gorgeous IRL as it is in my mind!

I also don't own an iron. I should get one at Goodwill. A sampler is a good idea. I use to know how to embroider -my mom was crafty. She taught me to sew and embroider but i only kept up with sewing. I'm getting a sewing machine when we move. I can't wait to have room!

I grabbed the booklet that came with the stitch it kit as subway reading matter.
