What have you seen lately

What have you seen lately

Postby vegankitty » Sat Jun 08, 2013 3:02 am

I rarely go to the movies because I'm cheap (last movie before this week was exactly a year ago). We went to see The Place Beyond the Pines. I liked it very much. The name comes from the translation of Schenectady which is my new town and it was nice to see familiar locations (though I'm used to it as so much is filmed in NYC).

Then today I spent the rainy day eating donuts and watching The Debt, Mean Girls and Traffic. The Debt was meh IMO. Mean Girls was funny and Traffic was sad.

I thought Mean Girls was funny too.

On my radar for films are: Enders Game, if it ever gets released. The trailer seemed disappointing, especially since it seemed to break with the story in a major way. Then, on the radio yesterday I heard an NPR commentator briefly discuss enjoying the new Joss Whedon film, which was Shakespearean. RnR googled it and we watched a trailer - it's in the must-see list, which is rare for me. Whedon has created an updated telling of Much Ado About Nothing, but the dialogue seems faithful to the Bard's work. It was released yesterday.

I'm psyched about the Whedon Shakespeare as well!

we SAW THE WHEDON SHAKESPEARE

it was great! my son learned Romeo & Juliet in school this year, so he was prepped for the language (and actually enjoys reading shakespeare, just like his parents, yay). I was a little worried about my daughter, but hoped the Whedonosity of it all would get her through (it did, mostly, but I think the black & white was a bridge too far). I giggled all throughout. Much better than the Branagh version, I think. My son wants to buy it. YESSSSS NERD

we recently re-watched Lilo & Stitch. It's my daughter's favorite & I'm in love with it again, too. She really wants to watch it with Shiva the next time we see her <3

Teh Netflix recently brought us American Graffiti and Death to Smoochy. Both were really good in their own completely different ways. :)

I have been watching the mini-series "based" on the Earthsea novels. It's HORRIBLE. At first I started watching it for laughs, but now I'm SO MAD. It's just nothing like the books. Probably the worst adaptation EVAR. I've seen some bad ones, too.

SOMEONE re-do it pls.
