I was at Starbucks today and a family was having coffee and their little boy was having hot chocolate. An older man was sitting outside reading with his three dogs at his feet; two husky types and a much smaller mixed mutt cutie. The little boy and his father went up to the old man and asked him if it was okay to pet the dogs. I think the man said to go ahead and that only the little dog would be interested. While I was waiting for my coffee, I watched the little boy and the little dog make friends, the little dog was play-bowing and the little boy was sort of play-bowing, too! The two were talking the instant and intimate language of play, and it was amazing and soul-enriching to watch, but I myself felt no need to pet the dog. Nor did the boys' father. It was all good.
The old man reminded me of the grandfather from the movie Moonstruck. Like this:

Andiamo!
